6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Join us for a relaxing evening of creativity and exploration at the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History creating collages inspired by the wonders of geology! The evening will be hosted by Brenna Frasier, Curator of Zoology, and Tim Fedak, Curator of Geology, Nova Scotia Museum.
In August 1876, the Curator of the Nova Scotia Museum (David Honeyman) displayed a series of geology maps at the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia. These maps were recently found in museum collections, and have been cleaned, repaired, and photographed to support further research. This project to conserve the historic maps was supported by the Atlantic Geoscience Society.
The evening will start off with a discussion with Tim Fedak, who will provide a brief overview of the historic maps and identify significant linkages with items in the geology collection. We will then explore some collage techniques and create our own collage works using maps.
We'll provide all the necessary materials, however, feel free to bring your own materials too, if you have any specific ideas in mind. Whether you're an experienced artist or just starting out, this event is the perfect chance to explore a unique medium.
Please note that this event is geared toward adult attendees.
